BioLumic secures funding for light-activated seed traits

Brownfield Ag News reports that BioLumic has raised $8.3 million in oversubscribed funding to advance its xTraits™ platform, which uses UV light to activate beneficial gene expression in seeds without genetic modification. The funding will support the development of new xTraits for crops including corn, soybeans, rice, and ryegrass, with commercial deployment in the U.S. planned for the 2026 planting season. BioLumic aims to capture 10% of the non-transgenic seed trait market within five years.
