Lighting up LatAm: Seed trait company BioLumic takes UV tech to Brazil, Chile
AgTech Navigator reports that BioLumic is expanding its UV-based xTraits Seed Trait Platform into South America through new partnerships in Brazil and Chile. The company is working with leading seed firms GDM and TMG, along with Brazilian producer Grupo Scheffer, to develop and field-test corn traits and hybrids across major grain-growing regions, leveraging Brazil's multiple corn seasons to rapidly innovate, validate, and scale new xTraits-enabled products.
The article also notes that BioLumic is extending its collaboration with Gro Alliance into Chile to support seed production and hybrid trait development that will primarily serve U.S. seed companies. Despite a broader slowdown in agtech venture funding, BioLumic has recently completed a Series B and an oversubscribed extension round and is in active discussions about additional strategic investment ahead of a planned Series C, underlining continued investor interest in its light-activated trait technology.
